Summer Term 2023

Hoping for a sunny start to the new term when we start our new topic: Raiders and Settlers! We will be studying British history to build a clear picture of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings up to 1066. In geography we will study how the land use changed with settlement and the impact that had on the landscape. We have an exciting 'Rivers' field trip planned for KS2 using our geography fieldwork skills. RE asks the questions - What would Jesus do? What is most important to Humanists and Christians? Science will cover classification and will revise several topics in our second look unit - The science of sport. Our books this term focus on migration and travel: The Arrival -Shaun Tan, The Windrush Child - Benjamin Zephaniah and On the Move - Michael Rosen. We are fortunate enough to have Arena PE and PAFC in to run our PE lessons again this term and we have the opportunity to take part in more cross country events held at Duchy College.

Our Art this term looks at textiles and we will attempt to create a tapestry inspired by the Bayeux! Later in the summer in DT, we will be using our knowledge of structures around the world to design, make and evaluate our own shelters. Last but not least, we will be rehearsing our school production: Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, ready to perform to you at the end of the school year.

Spring Term 2023

The blustery start to the new year is appropriate as we start our new book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief! The planning for this block of English revises and refreshes all the skills required for our end of year assessments (including SATs). Maths will consolidate multiplication and division and investigate decimals and area and perimeter, as well as statistics. Our topic this term is Groovy Greeks - starting with a look at Ancient Greece, the gods, trade and making our own Greek style pots in art lessons. Science will focus on evolution and inheritance and in music we are listening to high quality classical orchestral music and having a go at playing some instruments ourselves. As well as having Arena PE and PAFC in to run our PE lessons, we have the opportunity to take part in the cross country event held at Duchy College.

Autumn Term 2022

Welcome to our new Year 5 and Year 6. This term is always exciting and packed with activities. The topic webs will outline the learning in more detail - our topic this term is Behind Enemy Lines and we will be looking at some new texts linked to this - introduced through The Literacy Tree curriculum. Maths will continue to build on previous learning and all pupils have access to Times Table Rock Stars to help with their multiplication fluency. We are fortunate to have both Arena Sports and PAFC coaches with us this term and we will be engaging in creative projects from fairground rides in DT to Opera and Christmas songs in music. This term we have introduced some home learning activities - please see the attached PDF.
